Eric M. Rose is
president of E.M.Rose Builders, Inc. of Branford, Connecticut,
specialists in building luxury custom homes in southern Fairfield
County.
Eric grew up in New Canaan, Connecticut and entered the field of
residential building when 13 years old. As an apprentice for local
contractor Carmine Socci, Eric started doing odd jobs and soon began
learning carpentry working side-by-side with master carpenter, Patsy
Valente.
Eric graduated from King School in Stamford, Connecticut, now
King-Low-Heywood Thomas, and attended Bates College in Lewiston, Maine.
After college Eric worked for Socci Contracting, then joined Louis E.
Lee Co., Inc., a high-end custom builder in New Canaan. While working
with the many world famous architects, Mr. Lee’s company constructed
some of the finest stately mansions on Connecticut’s Gold Coast. This
became the model for the business Eric planned to create.
Seeking project management experience in larger scaled projects, Eric
joined a company specializing in large-scale commercial building and
multi-family construction in the United States and overseas. He started
as senior project manager and later rose to the position of executive
vice president. Although his heart remained in residential construction,
Eric gained invaluable experience learning to manage people, projects
and deadlines. There were many challenges presented by running a large
company and equally large and complex projects. Following this Eric
decided to concentrate the remainder of his career on the types of
extraordinary residential projects he built while at Louis E. Lee
Company.
E.M.Rose Builders was founded in 1994, targeting lower Fairfield
County, “where the wealth and artistic and intellectual energy would
allow me to do the kind of building I learned to love when I was
younger, where craftsmanship counted.” Having previously run a large
company, I knew I wanted to manage projects, not manage project
managers, so I built my company around the number of projects I could
manage directly.”
Technology, another of Eric’s passions, became the tool needed to
meet that goal. E.M.Rose chose IBM to architect a new and all
encompassing network designed around project management and
communication. “We were looking for an ally who could guide us the rest
of the way. IBM is at a different level than anyone creating hardware
today. They build and test at an exceptional level, even testing
software that is a perfect fit for their machines. Coupled with IBM
